Why “Cheap” Can Cost You More
National chains, online-only sellers, and marketplace listings often advertise low prices. What they leave out can be costly:
- Self-installation or subcontracted installation. A stairlift needs precise mounting and calibration. An incorrect install can be unsafe and may violate state licensing requirements.
- Payment in full up front for equipment you’ve never seen and that may not fit your stairs.
- No local office or warehouse. Without a local brick-and-mortar location, parts and technicians may be days or weeks away. When something goes wrong, you may have to deal with a national call center or the manufacturer directly.
- Local dealers may not be able to help. Many licensed local dealers, including Bedco, can’t service a stairlift that wasn’t installed by a licensed company, because of the liability involved. If the company you bought from can’t get to you, you may have nowhere else to turn.
- Lower-quality brands built to hit a price point, not to last.
Our approach is different. We find the lowest-cost option that’s still safe, reliable, and fully supported by our own local team, office, and warehouse. You pay only a deposit up front and the balance after your stairlift is installed and working.
Thinking About a Stairlift From Facebook Marketplace or Craigslist?
A few-hundred-dollar stairlift listed online can look like a bargain. Before you buy, know the risks:
- It may not fit your stairs. Curved rails are custom-built for one specific staircase and can’t be reused in another home. Straight rails may be the wrong length, or meant for the opposite side of the stairs.
- No warranty. Manufacturer warranties often don’t transfer to a second owner, and a private seller offers none. If the motor or circuit board fails, you pay for the repair.
- Unknown condition. You can’t tell how old the batteries are, whether the safety sensors work, or how the lift was treated. Worn batteries and failed sensors are among the most common problems we see.
- Unsafe removal and installation. Taking a stairlift out and putting it back in takes training and the right tools. An improperly installed lift can fail while someone is riding it, and installing one without the proper license may violate state law.
- No one to call. Many licensed dealers, including Bedco, can’t service a self-installed stairlift because of the liability involved. If it stops working, you’re on your own.
The safer alternative: our certified reconditioned Stannah stairlifts start at about $2,500 installed. Each one comes with new batteries, tested safety sensors, professional installation by licensed technicians, and a Bedco parts and labor warranty.
Option 1: Certified Reconditioned Stannah Stairlifts
Used straight stairlifts from about $2,500, installed
This is our most affordable option. We keep the region’s largest inventory of reconditioned Stannah stairlifts in our Baltimore warehouse. Stannah is the brand ConsumerAffairs named Best Overall for 2026. Every unit goes through our multi-point reconditioning process before it reaches your home:
- New batteries in every unit
- Safety sensors tested on the footrest and carriage
- Motor and drive tuned, with gears cleaned and lubricated
- Seat, armrests, and footrest fully cleaned and sanitized
Every reconditioned stairlift comes with a Bedco parts and labor warranty, and maintenance plans are available. See our used stairlifts.
Option 2: Used Curved Stairlifts
Yes, you can save on a curved stairlift too. Curved rails are custom-built for each staircase, so the rail itself can’t be reused. The chair and carriage are the most expensive parts of a curved stairlift, though, and we often have reconditioned Stannah ones in stock.
We pair a reconditioned chair and carriage with a brand-new custom rail built to your exact staircase. You get the same custom fit and safety as a new curved stairlift at a significantly lower total cost. Ask about this option at your free estimate.
Option 3: Stairlift Rentals, With the Option to Buy
Rentals from about $250 per month
Our rental stairlifts are current Stannah models, the same make and model we sell new, with the same quality. Every rental is fully prepped with new batteries and covered by a warranty.
Renting makes sense when:
- You’re recovering from surgery and need a stairlift for a few months
- A family member is staying with you temporarily
- You aren’t sure yet whether you’ll stay in your home long-term
- You want to try a stairlift before committing to a purchase
Flexibility if your plans change: you can buy your rental stairlift at any time, and your rental payments can go toward the purchase. If you’re not sure how long you’ll need it, you don’t have to guess.
Option 4: No-Interest Financing on New Stairlifts
If a new stairlift is the right choice but paying all at once isn’t practical, we offer financing through Synchrony, including no-interest plans for qualified buyers.
You get a new Stannah or Bruno with a lifetime motor warranty, a lifetime rail warranty on curved Stannah models, and 2 years of labor coverage, including the travel charge, and you spread the cost over time.
Built-In Value: We Buy Back and Relocate Stairlifts
One of the biggest worries about buying a stairlift is “what if I don’t need it later?” With Bedco, your stairlift keeps its value. We buy back stairlifts, and we relocate them if you move or if you sell or donate yours to a friend or family member. Because we handle the move ourselves, the stairlift is professionally reinstalled and stays fully supported. That makes buying a stairlift a much safer decision than it might seem.
Help Paying for a Stairlift
Several programs may help Maryland, DC, and Virginia residents cover stairlift costs:
- VA benefits. The HISA grant, Specially Adapted Housing grant, and Aid & Attendance may apply to eligible veterans.
- Maryland Medicaid waivers through Home and Community-Based Services programs
- Area Agencies on Aging may have home modification grants or low-interest loans.
- Long-term care insurance policies may cover home modifications.
Standard Medicare does not cover stairlifts. Learn more about Medicare and stairlifts. We’re happy to provide documentation for reimbursement and help point you in the right direction.
Clear Pricing, No Surprises
- Installation is always included in your stairlift price, done by our own factory-certified technicians.
- Small deposit, balance after installation. Curved stairlifts are custom-built, so they require a larger deposit.
- We tell you up front about anything else your home may need, such as an outlet near the stairs.
- A full demonstration before we leave.

Affordable Doesn’t Mean Less Support
Whether your stairlift is new, reconditioned, or rented, you get the same Bedco service from our local office and warehouse. Our GPS-tracked service vehicles usually respond within one business day, our digital records mean we know your lift before we arrive, and our technicians are long-tenured, factory-certified employees. They’re the same team that installs and services accessibility lifts at places like Oriole Park at Camden Yards and M&T Bank Stadium.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the most affordable stairlift option?
A certified reconditioned Stannah straight stairlift, starting at about $2,500 installed.
Is a used stairlift safe?
Yes, when it’s properly reconditioned and installed by certified technicians. Every used Stannah we sell is fully inspected, fitted with new batteries, and backed by our parts and labor warranty.
Should I buy a used stairlift from Facebook Marketplace or Craigslist?
We don’t recommend it. Private listings come with no warranty, an unknown condition, and often a rail that won’t fit your stairs. Many licensed dealers, including Bedco, can’t service a self-installed stairlift because of the liability involved. A certified reconditioned stairlift is a safer way to save.
Can Bedco service a stairlift I bought from a national chain or online company?
Usually not. Like many licensed local dealers, we can’t take on the liability of servicing a stairlift that was self-installed or installed by an unlicensed installer. If your stairlift was installed by a licensed company, call us and we’ll see if we can help. Either way, it’s worth buying from a company with a local office, warehouse, and service team that will support your stairlift for as long as you own it.
Can I get a used curved stairlift?
Yes. We pair a reconditioned Stannah chair and carriage with a new custom rail built for your staircase, which saves money while keeping a perfect fit.
How much does it cost to rent a stairlift?
Rentals start at about $250 per month. Rental units are current Stannah models, prepped with new batteries and covered by a warranty.
Can my rental payments go toward buying the stairlift?
Yes. You can buy your rental stairlift at any time, and your rental payments can go toward the purchase.
Do you offer financing?
Yes. Synchrony financing is available, including no-interest plans for qualified buyers.
Will you buy my stairlift back if I no longer need it?
Yes. We buy back stairlifts, and we can relocate yours if you move or if you sell or donate it to someone else.
Can I get a quote without a home visit?
For straight staircases, usually yes. A virtual appointment is often all we need. Curved stairlifts require a 30–45 minute in-home measurement.
Will I get the same service on a used or rental stairlift?
Yes. Every stairlift we install is supported by our own service team.
